“Inspiring performances with exceptional talents, on every stage”
This is not our dream, but rather our promise, commitment, and mission that we are honored to implement.
During the reign of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz, culture has become central to the development process. Coupled with the inspiring leadership of HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman, culture leads the way in becoming a way of life and a driver of economic growth; the theater and performing arts will be embedded within this vibrant creative scene.
Prince Mohammed bin Salman said, "All success stories start with a vision, and successful ones are based on strong pillars." We have many strong pillars on which we can build a robust, successful, competitive and sustainable sector for theater and performing arts. The first pillar is represented by our deeply-rooted cultural heritage and the rich diversity of our social fabric. In Saudi Arabia, there are many stories that will inspire future generations and enthrall the world. Another pillar is the innovation, creativity and energy of our youth who are motivated to embody and perform their ideas. Some of these creative talents are those who kept the theater flame burning throughout the past decades driven by their passion for this beautiful art , despite the challenges. Perhaps the most important pillar is the clear political will towards embedding and systematically consolidating cultural work, represented by the leadership of His Highness the Minister of Culture and Chairman of the Board of Directors Prince Badr bin Abdullah Al Farhan Al Saud, supported by an excellent team in the Ministry of Culture. Unprecedented work has been delivered in producing an ecosystem for cultural sectors that has resulted in the establishment of 11 specialized Commissions, including this one.
The tasks of the Theater and Performing Arts Commission, expressed in its strategy, executive programs and initiatives, will focus on creating the organizational environment for the sector, which includes developing talent starting from school theater to establishing a theater and performing arts academy that will be a center of excellence, in addition to providing scholarships and multi-level training courses. We will also work to develop citizens relationship with theater through a number of initiatives that will facilitate access for all regions in the kingdom and ensure a rich experience for all. The Commission will also encourage investment in the sector building relationships with the private and third sector.
Our role goes beyond just organization it extends to motivating and empowering the theater and performing arts sector to be a gateway to our unique culture.
